About Arindam Mukherjee
I am a freelance photojournalist based in Kolkata, India. I started my career as an advertising photographer and have had worked with reputed advertising agencies, fashion designers, graphic designers and NGOs. From the very beginning, I was more interested in street photography; which later brought me to photojournalism. I started my career in photojournalism as a freelance in The Times of India. I have worked as the chief photographer and assignment director for EyePress photo agency based in Hong Kong. Presently I work as a freelance photojournalist for newspapers, magazines and NGOs.
In 2003, I have received the National Media Fellowship from the National Foundation for India for my long term work on Indian Coal Miners. In 2006 I won the B. Bangoor Endowment Fellowship for my work on Indian Sex workers. I was awarded with the New America Media Award in photojournalism section in 2009 for my work \'Empowerment behind Burkha\', published in Audrey Magazine (California, USA). My pictures have appeared in Le Figaro, Stern, Der Spiegel, The Sunday Telegraph, Le Monde, Liberation, Le point, De Volkskrant, Private, Forbes India, Traveller Magazine (UK) and many other major publications throughout the world. Solo exhibition of my photographs have been held in New Delhi (India) and Cork city (Ireland). I am now 34 years old and living in Kolkata with my wife and mother.
