The Hindu festival takes place in the month of March marking the onset of spring. A time for free flowing enjoyment, Holi is celebrated irrespective of caste, class or gender. For a while, the social barriers go for a toss. Even complete strangers can daub colours on each other and nobody seems to mind. Friends and families come together. Day long parties take place. Lavish food and beverages are served. Devotees go to the temples and participate in traditional song and dance. In parts of the country men and women enact the teasing, amorous mythical Holi revelry between Radha and Krishna – the most popular divine couple, the eternal lovers, in Hindu religion. Like spring festivals around the world, Holi too, signifies rejuvenation in nature and human life.
