The hamlet of Jaduguda in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand is best known for housing the country’s oldest uranium mines. The seven mines in Jharkhand’s East Singbhum district have been a ‘boon’ for India’s nuclear programme, but a curse for the surrounding tribal villages.
