Autos are the most polluting vehicles as they use a combination of Petrol and Kerosin (locally called KANTATEL)as it is cheaper than petrol. 50000 autos operate on Calcutta roads. A recent report by CNIC (CHITTARANJAN NATIONALCANCER INSTITUTE)  one of the most prominent cancer Institue of the country declairs Calcutta has the most air pollution in the country and 70% of its population suffers from respiratory and lung diseases. - Arindam Mukherjee
